WHAT IS TIMESHARE?
 
Timeshare simply means the sharing of holiday time within a holiday unit at a given holiday resort. The unit or kaliva is broken up into weeks and the weeks are in turn graded according to season and demand period.
 
These are reflected as Blue weeks, White weeks, Red weeks and Peak weeks.
 
BLUE WEEKS Low demand season
WHITE WEEKS White weeks are normally mid-holiday season weeks. In other words, weeks that fall outside school holidays
RED WEEKS Red weeks are higher demand weeks and usually fall within school holidays, although this is not guaranteed.
PEAK WEEKS Peak weeks are the weeks with the highest demand throughout the year and will be the most sought after weeks eg. Easter and December school holidays.
 
IS TIMESHARE RIGHT FOR YOU?
Your timeshare week can be banked with RCI and can be exchanged locally and internationally at any RCI affiliated resort. RCI works on a “Fair Exchange Principle” i.e. if you own a Peak or Red week in a three bedroom unit, you can exchange into a Peak week, Red week, White week or Blue week in the same size unit or a smaller one if you so prefer. But if you own a Blue week in a one bedroom unit, you can only swop into a Blue week in a one bedroom unit.
 
However, RCI has introduced Instant Exchange Time. This means that as long as your request is made between 45 and 2 days prior to your intended departure - like for like restrictions fall away and you can therefore request any resort, season or size of unit, regardless of what you have deposited. If the space is available, it’s yours!

THE ADVANTAGES OF TIMESHARE
1 Once you have purchased your week, you will automatically be affiliated to RCI for the current year and 2 years thereafter.
2 You can use your week yourself, or
3 You can SpaceBank it with RCI. This means that you can SpaceBank your week in advance and RCI will exchange it at any time over the next three years with an equivalent week at any other RCI affiliated resort. The earlier you SpaceBank, the more trading points will be awarded to you.
4 RCI has attached "trading points" to each type of unit at every RCI resort in Southern Africa which will enable you to holiday at different resorts over weekends or during midweeks, or you can even choose to stay only a day or two.
5 However, should you require more time, you may SpaceBank the following year's week a year in advance and use it immediately.
6 You can rent it out yourself (as long as it has not been SpaceBanked) to family or friends, or advertise it in your local newspaper.
7 You can place your week into the resort rental pool.
